National Student Exchange

The National Student Exchange (NSE) is a program for undergraduate exchange within the United States with opportunities for exchange in Canada as well.  Approximately 4,000 students study each year through NSE at nearly 180 participating universities in 49 states and territories such as the Virgin Islands, Guam, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.  This program offers opportunities to experience a different academic environment while maintaining progress toward academic goals, expanding academic options, clarifying personal and professional goals, seeing the United States and experiencing its diversity of cultures, values and lifestyles.

College of Charleston students accepted to the NSE program maintain their status at the College while spending a semester or year at the chosen host institution and pay College of Charleston tuition and fees.

Procedure

  1. Complete a College of Charleston application for National Student Exchange and indicate three preferences for study location. A $200 deposit (which includes the non-refundable $50 study away fee) will be required when you submit your application.
  2. Placements into study locations will be made at the national NSE conference attended by a CIE staff member.
  3. Student is informed of locale and will complete additional paperwork to ensure transfer credit.
