Program Overview

The College of Charleston Honors spring break program in the United Kingdom is designed specifically for students who are part of the College of Charleston Honors College or are graduate students in the Department of History.  This spring break study program is part of a spring semester course.  The travel component will visit various sites in the UK.  Students will study the Arthurian legend and the Grail Quest as an historical and literary phenomenon.

Program Requirements

  • Students must enroll in the spring semester course associated with the program
  • Students must either already possess a valid passport or be able to obtain a valid passport

Program Highlights

The spring break travel component will visit such places as Winchester, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Cadbury, Exeter, Cardiff, and various sties in London.  

Courses offered

Students must enroll in the following course for the Spring semester:

  • For undergraduate students in the Honors College - Honors 381 (HONS 381): In Search of King Arthur and the Holy Grail
  • For graduate students in the Department of History - History XXX (HIST XXX): In Search of King Arthur and the Holy Grail

Program Costs

Students will pay their normal College of Charleston semester tuition for the spring semester course and a program fee. The program fee of $3,925 (estimated) includes a non-refundable $50 application fee, round-trip airfare, lodging, ground transportation, breakfast daily, guided tours, entrances into sites, and medical insurance.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Any financial aid that a student currently has at the College of Charleston will apply like normal for the semester course tuition (ie. Life Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Academic Scholarships, Federal Student Loans and Grants, etc.).  Additionally, students are eligible to apply for the Center for International Education study abroad scholarship.  The maximum that can be awarded for this program is $500. Application process

Application deadline is November 7, 2013 for the Spring 2014 program. Students must submit a completed study abroad application form to Julie Swigert (swigertj@cofc.edu)  Study Abroad Coordinator, Center for International Education. Applications can either be downloaded from our website or can be picked up in the CIE office. A $500 deposit will be posted to the student’s MyCharleston account once the application has been submitted to, and approved by, the CIE.
