Come join us on one of our study abroad programs!  Seventy-four percent of in-coming students choose the College of Charleston because of the rich diversity and depth of its study abroad programs.  The College offers a broad range of study abroad opportunities for its students throughout the year:

CofC Faculty-Led programs

Students can participate in a semester, summer or spring break program sponsored by the College of Charleston and directed by its faculty.  Students pay tuition to the College and receive College of Charleston grades and credits.

International Exchange programs

College of Charleston has student exchange agreements with over two dozen foreign universities; students pay their regular tuition to the College and study at one of our partner universities abroad, and receive transfer credit upon successful completion of their program.

Affiliate programs

Affiliate programs are approved third party study abroad organizations providing students the opportunity to study a wide variety of subjects around the world.  Students can take classes at a foreign institution or at an academic center administered by the host organization during a semester, year, or summer term. Students do not pay CofC tuition; instead, they pay a program fee directly to the study abroad organization and receive transfer credit for approved course work upon successful completion of their program. Students interested in affiliate programs must sign up for an Affiliate advising session before they apply to the program.

Advising Sessions

Not sure which program is right for you?  Please read our Getting Started section on factors to consider when choosing a study abroad program. Additionally, the CIE offers weekly advising sessions to introduce students to the types of programs offered by the College. Group advising sessions will be held in the first floor meeting room of the Multicultural Center (same building as the CIE).

For the Spring 2017 semester, sessions will begin the week of January 17th.

Abroad 101: For those students interested in College of Charleston faculty-led programs or who are undecided as to which type of program.  These sessions are offered:

  • Thursdays - 3:30pm

Affiliate programs:  For those students interested in affiliate programs, exchange programs, or any other program not provided by the College of Charleston (CofC programs or Exchange).  These sessions are offered:

  • Tuesdays - 3:30pm
  • Wednesdays - 3:30pm
These sessions will be held by either CIE staff or our trained peer advisors who will be available to answer general questions about study abroad and the types of programs we offer.  Students must follow up with the appropriate advisor once they have chosen a program.
