Courses
When participating in an affiliate program, students must have their courses pre-approved prior to departure by the appropriate faculty member (found on the course approval directory) to ensure that the classes taken abroad will be accepted by College of Charleston as transfer credit. You can learn more about the course approval process by watching this video.
Tuition
Students are not charged College of Charleston tuition but instead will pay a program fee directly to the host organization. With most providers, their program fee includes tuition and academic fees at the host school, housing, excursions, insurance, and onsite support services. Programs vary, so review the program provider's website to learn what is included. For the College of Charleston, students will only be charged the study abroad fee ($150).
Financial Aid
Students can use portable aid only on approved affiliate programs. Students may participate in other approved independent programs or study through another US university but financial aid will not travel.Affiliate Provider Information Sessions

All students studying abroad for academic credit must first submit an application to the CIE through ViaTRM and complete the necessary course approval process for non-CofC programs prior to going abroad. Students who fail to follow these policies and procedures before engaging in study abroad must –upon their return—adhere to the “Transfer of International Credit” process with the Transfer Resource Center in order for their coursework to be evaluated for potential academic credit.
